Dopamine
| |
Dopamine is an excitatory (“gas pedal”) neurotransmitter. It is used by the brain to stimulate heightened states of alertness, awareness, and aggression. Dopamine is used as a building block in the creation of norepinephrine which is further converted to adrenaline. Responses involving fear are a result of heightened levels of dopamine and norepinephrine. Low levels can result in depression with thoughts of suicide, withdrawal and muscular disturbances. Dopamine levels can be affected by tyrosine, exercise, and thoughts and images of excitement, challenges, risk, deadlines, sex, frightening scenarios, etc. |
