Peripheral Signs/Symptoms

Peripheral signs and symptoms are behaviors, moods and physical symptoms that are external and measurable. Research indicates that measuring signs and symptoms on a peripheral level reflects central levels (brain levels) of neurotransmitters. |

Phenylalanine

Phenylalanine is an amino acid that converts to dopamine in the brain. Raising dopamine levels can lead to increased anxiety in certain individuals. |

Physiological Reward

This is a behavior that is often performed automatically that results in a chemical alteration in the brain that restores the chemical balance the brain sees as “normal”. |

Psychiatric Patient

A psychiatric patient is anyone diagnosed with a psychiatric thought disorder. BCOP and BMSC plans are not recommended for persons with these types of disorders. |

A psychological reward is any reward that makes a person’s life better in a tangible way. |
